Maintenance morning – Sunday 28 October from 10am

Calling all tennis players

There is more to being a member of a tennis club than just playing tennis.

The courts are looking superb at the moment but they won’t stay like that unless we all look after them. Our Chairman proposes that we spend a little time on tidying up some external bits of the Club e.g. court edges, leaves, back of the building etc. Please play your part as a club member by helping with our routine maintenance.

The contractor who re-furbished the courts recommended that we regularly (at least weekly) blow off the surface to remove leaves, pollen, blossom, loose stones, etc.  For this purpose we have a Flymo Garden Vac, which is very easy to use. There is no reason why all club members cannot do their bit to keep the courts clean using this machine. If done regularly it should not take too long. Often there are spare moments, waiting to play for example, when this task could be undertaken.

His second recommendation was that we should slacken the nets and hook them up off  the ground when not in use. Otherwise the movement of the nets created by the wind wears away the bottom of the net. Apparently this was the custom and practice in  days of yore and is a practice we would like to see revived.

Adult badminton coaching

A six-week course of badminton coaching for adults began on Tuesday 16 October 2012 (from 5.30 to 7pm).

The coach will be Harry Mo and the cost is £3 per session or £15 for the full 6 weeks.

Numbers have to be limited so if you would like to join in, please contact John Dean, club secretary, on 01752 781673. If there is a demand, we will provide further coaching courses, so please let us know, indicating your preferred days, morning, afternoon or early evening, and a rough idea of your standard:  beginner, social player or league standard.

Badminton players please note:
Court 1 will be used for these sessions and therefore will not be available for open play.
