News & Events

This page lists the latest club news and forthcoming events. We will be updating this page regularly, so keep checking back for new additions.

LOTTERY FUNDING

We have been awarded a substantial sum under the Awards For All scheme to run a free coaching course for the citizens of Plymouth and to purchase new equipment to run the course. The spirit of the award is to reach out to those of us who would otherwise not be easily able to pay for coaching. It is open to non-members who are beginners. We will be closing the list when we have reached about 50 people.

On average there will be 10 hours of free group coaching per month for one year.

The members will benefit in many ways even though they may not be involved with the coaching sessions, by belonging to a successful Club.
The new equipment will be for the general use of Club members when not being used for the special coaching sessions.

Of course we hope that many of the applicants will want to join our Club in due course.

Watch this space for further details.

Our coach is planning to be at the club on a few evenings for members to try the equipment.

Finally, we would ask you to be tolerant of the fact that some court time will be taken out of "Open Play" for the Awards For All group coaching. So far the initial times for this event have been agreed as follows:

Wednesdays5.45pm to 7.30pm (one court)
Fridays5.45pm to 7.30pm (one court)

It will be necessary to arrange the full year's programme in the very near future so that all members, both existing and potential, are fully aware of the situation.

Summer Camps arranged by Plymouth City Council Sports Unit

We have been advised that these activities advertised in the City Council's "Get Active" brochure will now take place at other clubs this year. We hosted these last year and it is the turn of other clubs this year. Apologies if we raised any false expectations.

COACHING SESSIONS FOR DOUBLES PLAY

Peter Sher[ock will be giving one hour coaching sessions on Tuesdays from 9.00am starting on 15th July until 17th August. Come along even if you don't have a partner and learn doubles tactics whilst having some fun.
Cost is £3.50 per session

A GREAT OPEN DAY

The weather on the 3rd of May could not have been finer for the launch of the 2008 season. The Deputy Lord Mayor Mr Ken Foster and his wife, Wendy came and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They officially opened Court 3 which has just been resurfaced, by cutting the ribbon. Wendy received a bouquet of flowers from the Winner of the PRINCESS Fancy Dress while the only Prince entrant looks on. Naturally he got a trophy too for such an ingenious outfit! The Tennis Tournament was won by Tom Burgess and James Sherlock.
